Prepare your mailbox for winter

Here at Alsace Township, our priority during winter storms is to clear and maintain roads to the best of our ability.  In our efforts to keep roads open our plows will come through and throw snow to the edge of the roads. Since mailboxes are typically placed in the right-of-way it is the homeowner’s responsibility to ensure that their mailbox can withstand the weight of snow being thrown from a plow.  Here are a few tips that may help.

  • Place reflective tape on your mailbox to help operators see it while plowing at night.
  • When shoveling around your mailbox please do not throw snow back into the road.
  • Make sure your mailbox is secure in the ground.
  • If you have experienced damage in the past, and it is in the legal right of way, consider moving your mailbox.

I’ve also attached a plan for a “swing” mailbox from PennDOT for another option.

Hybrid Board of Supervisors Meetings

Moving forward the Board of Supervisor meetings will return to in-person meetings beginning Wednesday July 21, 2021. We will be offering a hybrid meeting, meaning you can still attend via Zoom should you choose to not attend in person. If you would like the Zoom login or phone number, please call the Township Office prior to 4pm on the day of the scheduled meeting.
